What Is Communication?

Communication

Communication is how you share and receive information, thoughts, or feelings. It can happen through:

  • Words: what you say
  • Actions: what you do
  • Signs& expressions :body language

There are two main types:

  • Verbal communication: speaking and writing
  • Non-verbal communication : facial expressions, gestures, tone of voice, eye contact, posture

Why Communication Matters

  • Avoid misunderstandings
  • Build trust and respect
  • Improve friendships, family, and work relationships
  • Handle difficult or emotional topics better

After sharing a message, especially about something sensitive, make sure it was understood correctly. You can ask:

Check Understanding

“Does that make sense?”

“How did you understand what I said?”

Good Communication Habits

  • Listen carefully and respectfully
  • Try to understand the other person’s point of view
  • Remember that cultural norms affect how people communicate
  • Show attention through positive body language
