Who needs more iron?
- Adolescents need more iron because their bodies are growing fast.
- Girls especially need extra iron to replace iron lost during menstruation.

- Eat iron-rich foods regularly
- Take iron and folate supplements if advised by a health worker
Important tip
- Avoid drinking coffee or tea 1 hour before or after meals. Caffeine blocks iron absorption.

Red meat, liver, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, lentils, peanuts, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, seeds, and dried fruits.
